Activities in Hermanus

Hermanus offers such a central location that exploring the Western Cape from here is a breeze. Apart from the phenomenal land-based whale watching in season which is from June until November, the winter months of June, July & August offer peak shark cage diving and viewing which takes place in Gansbaai, only 40 minutes from Hermanus. It is an easy drive from Cape Town, just over an hour, and you can take the scenic route via Clarence Drive, regarded as one of the most scenic routes in South Africa. You can stop and visit the penguins in Stony Point, on-route and have lunch at Kleinmond Harbour. Hermanus and the area is the adventure mecca of South Africa with an enormous variety of outdoor activities to enjoy. Sea kayaking, whale watching, surfing, kite-surfing, sand-boarding, Quad bike rides through the wine estates, mountain biking, zip-lining, shark diving, the list goes on… Whether you opt for the cosy winter months, perhaps a wine tasting excursions or two and relaxing in front of the fire-place with a good red or the adrenaline-junkie stuff which is available all year, there is something for everyone to enjoy in this beautiful seaside village.
